I have since spoken with @adam and I do believe that the order of operations was not exactly what I had perceived them to be at first. He wrote a reply to my message explaining the situation a little more and since I think he is a credible person I do believe that only taking the Discord offline in the way it was done was the result of it being the end of the day, IRC being more difficult to “pause” and an ongoing discussion behind the scenes in which the pause itself was seen as a “reprisal” (an act of retaliation).
