@manton Thanks and no worries! AFAICT if I could use pandoc to convert markdown to html I should be fine, since it has support for specifying footnote identifiers which in turn allows for unique footnotes, solving the problem.
It seems you can change the defaultMarkdownHandler from Goldmark to pandoc, but I don't know if this is possible to do in the context of mb... discourse.gohugo.io/t/overrid...
